Real results,
real people

From post-surgical rehab to SDP adaptive training — here's what clients and families say about working with James.

SDP Client
James has completely transformed how our son engages with exercise. He comes home from every session energized and proud. The structure, the patience, the genuine care — we haven't found anything like it in San Diego.

Parent of IDD client, Regional Center / SDP
Standard PT
After my hip replacement I was nervous about getting back to activity. James did a thorough assessment, started slow, and built a program that actually fit my life. I'm back to hiking — something I didn't think would happen this quickly.

Adaptive
We tried two other trainers before finding James. Neither of them understood how to work with someone on the autism spectrum. James adapted every session, communicated differently, and actually got results. This is a rare skill.

Before you reach out

Answers to the questions families and clients ask most often.

Does my family member qualify for SDP funding?
SDP (Self-Determination Program) is available to Regional Center clients in California. If your family member receives services from a Regional Center (such as San Diego Regional Center), they may be eligible to use SDP funding to hire providers of their choice — including adaptive fitness trainers like KinetiqAF. Contact me and I'll walk you through the qualification process at no charge.
Which FMS providers do you work with?
KinetiqAF works with Financial Management Services (FMS) providers across the San Diego network. If you're already working with an FMS, let me know who — I'll confirm we're set up to receive referrals through them or complete any paperwork needed on my end. You just request KinetiqAF through your FMS and I handle the rest.
Where do sessions take place?
Most sessions are in-home or community-based throughout San Diego County. I come to you — whether that's your home, a community gym, a park, or another familiar environment. For clients who prefer a gym setting, I work out of a facility in Linda Vista. Virtual sessions are also available for programming check-ins and nutrition coaching.
What experience do you have with IDD populations?
I hold the Special Strong Certified Adaptive Trainer designation (CBSE), which is one of the few credentials specifically designed for fitness professionals working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. My approach integrates Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) principles, sensory regulation strategies, and adaptive program design. I do not use a one-size-fits-all protocol — every client has a unique plan.
How long before I see results?
This depends heavily on your starting point and goals. For post-surgical clients, meaningful functional improvements typically appear within 6–8 weeks of consistent training. For adaptive clients, behavioral and motor skill gains often appear earlier, while physical fitness metrics take longer. I set realistic expectations during the free consultation and track measurable benchmarks from the first session.
What is the cancellation policy?
24-hour notice is required for cancellations. Late cancellations (under 24 hours) and no-shows are charged the session fee. I understand emergencies happen — I'll always work with you on a case-by-case basis, especially for adaptive clients where unexpected regulation challenges are part of the territory.
